This family owned gem isn’t so hard to find. It faces the Hyatt Regency Gurgaon and if you punch in the name into your Google Map app, it will find the closest route for you. I just refer to this showroom as a “hidden” gem because it isn’t on MG Road along with other grand furniture shops nor is it the fancy (and pricey) Country Collection in Hauz Khas. It also isn’t the treasure-hunt-furniture-graveyard like Sharma Farms. It is set behind a run-down Haveli along NH48 (slightly haunted house-ish) and easy to miss if it wasn’t for the big sign along the highway. Yet once inside, the vast collection of Gujarat antiques and new furniture are not only impressive, but well maintained in a temperature controlled environment.
I first heard about Gujarat Haveli Furniture & Handicraft Showroom from an American friend who lived in Delhi a few years back. A colorful rustic seating stool in her sitting room caught my eye and the cushion just hugged my bottom when I sat on it. She informed me that the base of the stool was a vintage Chaki flour mill base and the colorful cushion was handcrafted and stitched by one of the women of the Gujarat Haveli family. Furniture with character and a story behind it…these are reasons we fall in love with antique furniture I imagine.
Upon my visit, I was told, before lockdown, they dealt with clients abroad and have created furniture for the foreign market. Some of those pieces can be found at the showroom and certain adjustments can be made upon request.
I recommend taking ample time to look through their vast collection which include a myriad of antiques, doors, chairs, tables, chests, benches, mirrors, traditional Udlli bowls and so much more. Add that extra touch to your Delhi home with furniture that tells you a story, ones that touch your heart (or hugs your bottom!)
