I took this photo back in 2016 during a walking tour through Old Delhi. As we made our way up to the Khari Baoli spice market rooftop, this little girl in a pretty red dress popped out of her flat to wave a hello, or rather “namaste” and followed us up the stairs with her gentle wide eyes. I reckon she is about 3 years old in this photo, the same age as my own son now. As I try to imagine the girl, who should be about 8 years old now, with longer hair and beautiful dark eyes, I pray that she is safe. I also hope soon we can all get back to visiting special places like Old Delhi and discover even more about this extraordinary city.
As the lockdown eases down and we hope at Mangoli Mag to share more about Delhi and special places and people we come across. Stay tuned!
Speaking of children, information came to us about a wonderful online workshop led by world renowned Puppeteer Dadi Pudumjee and his team titled “Puppetshuppet: A magical introduction to the Art & Craft of Puppetry”.
Dadi Pudumjee who I have had the honour to know, is also the founder of The Ishara Puppet Theatre, famous for its annual International Puppet Theatre Festival held in Delhi. We’re crossing fingers that the festival, among so many others will be back in full swing next year.
Until then, we can entertain and educate our little ones with the traditions and techniques of Puppetry in India through the online program provided by Dadi and his team.
